Sue's Blog

Sunday, December 5, 2010

Well, I don't seem to be very consistent with this blogging!  Now it's December, and I have a little more time to get caught up with some things.  It's that time of looking back over the last year.

I've had a very fulfilling and joyful year on a personal and work level.  I turned the big 5-0 this year, and had a great time celebrating with a party and then a trip to LA (which I loved) and Telluride, CO (which I also loved).  I dragged out the celebrating as long as I could!  I thoroughly enjoy being 50, and besides the physical aging stuff which isn't so fun, find that life just gets more harmonious.  I was always one of those serious kids waiting to get older.  After 30 years plus of therapy, meditating, workshops, teachers, teachings, and every kind of mistake you could imagine, I can finally say that I am more peaceful and joyful than I've ever been.  Black Bear said that he processed for 60 years in his life, so I figure I might be about halfway done.  Let's hope!

It's been a great year for the school.  We've already had two firewalks (last year's got moved to this year because of the snow), with another coming up soon.  I've thoroughly enjoyed all the classes, workshops and sessions I've done this year.  I've been feeling for awhile now that I'm supposed to add in some courses with the emphasis of longer-term training.  The first one will be the three year Healer Training starting in January.  I am so excited to be starting this, as I feel that there are many, many people out there who need help.  The more of us who can heal and grow, the more can go out and help others.  I often say that it's not that someone out there who's going to come and save us all.  It's we lightworkers who are on the front lines and who can make a difference.  All of us with our imperfections and self-doubts who nonetheless are caring and compassionate.  If we can learn to accept our gifts and let go of our self-doubts, we can just get out there and start making a difference.  It's up to us to bring the light to the world, no one else is going to do it for us.  And I have to believe that we can, otherwise I couldn't get up in the morning.

On another personal note, I got engaged to be married this summer.  I am very happy with my fiance, Larry, who I met while we were both working at the local SPCA.  It's great to be with another animal lover!  After years of many ups and downs in relationships, I finally feel that I am in a healthy and loving relationship.  I will be getting married for the first time, and am looking forward to a joyous celebration next April!

Last night we had a lovely Holiday Open House at Body Mind Spirit where I have the classes for the school.  It was such a wonderful evening with friends and families where we made prayer ties, ate, talked, laughed and celebrated Grandmother Mary Duty's upcoming 90th birthday.  Mary was so touched and surprised that there was so much love and support for her.  She gave us a beautiful blessing that touched everyone's heart.  It was so nice to celebrate the holidays with other "seekers on the path."   I had wonderful conversations and just thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

I want to thank all my students and clients for a fantastic year.  I continue to be inspired and motivated by all your hard work and continue to learn from all of you.  Without you, I couldn't do what I love to do.  You truly make my path possible.  I hope you all have holidays filled with love and light.  If you hit that point of being stressed, just take a breath and connect to the rhythm of your heartbeat. Remember, it's supposed to be about love.  Hope to be seeing you all soon -

I wish you many blessings on your pathways!

The Whole Life Festival!

Well, we were all thrilled with our first Whole Life Festival held May 21-23.  Being the first time, I was nervous beforehand, not really sure how it would turn out.  But as usual, all my fears were unfounded as it was a rewarding weekend for all.

We started with the Opening Ceremony in Lee Park.  About 50 of us sat in a big circle right in the center of town, meditating, drumming and singing!  We also did some praying and sending light to the Gulf disaster.  Then we heard the beautiful and moving singing of Maia Oden and two of her friends.  I love her voice!  We also had the creative Lester Seal and his exuberant drumming and singing.  It was really a fun and relaxing evening.

We had about 30 classes offered over the whole weekend and many people benefited from the teachings and experiences.  It was just so great to connect to new people and old friends in an accepting and inspiring environment.

I am looking forward to my summer of celebrating my 50th birthday with a trip to LA with girlfriends and then on to Telluride, CO, which is where I learned from my teachers, Christopher Beaver and Black Bear.  Back to the source of the beautiful mountains of Telluride!  I will be gone from June 24th til July 7th and am still planning out the rest of the schedule for the school for the summer and the rest of the year.  I most likely won't be offering any weekly classes this summer but will be available for individual healings and channeled sessions.  Feel free to contact me if you are interested!

Checking Back In!

It's been a long time since I've written after a good start at posting blog entries last year.  I felt as if I was deep within a cave all winter and am beginning to come out now with this gorgeous spring.  I've had some health challenges as well, including getting migraines for the first time in my life and dealing with chronic allergies and sinus infections.  Nothing too serious, just nagging enough to often make me feel fuzzy and have difficulty in focusing.  Spring is my favorite time of year, though, and it's helping me come out into the world again!

There are several things coming up that I'm looking forward to.  First, a spring firewalk on April 17th.  We had a fantastic winter firewalk in January smack in the middle of our snowy and cold winter.  Nineteen people faced their fears and walked across the hot coals.  Well done!  Check out the calendar and firewalk page for more information on this next one.

Another event that will be new this year is The Whole Life Festival happening May 21-23.  This will be a gathering of all kinds of talented local folks offering teachings on a variety of alternative spiritualities, green living, movement and healing modalities.  We're looking for help on all levels, so let me know if you'd like to be involved in some way.

The Sister Deer Circle has been focused on helping Grandmother Mary Duty this last winter.  Mary is a big animal lover and has ended up with a feral cat colony living under her house.  We've been able to trap, spay and neuter 15 out of 16 cats, which is a great success.

If you want to volunteer at this time, I would suggest helping out with the Whole Life Festival.  After the festival, I'll have time again to organize another meeting of the Sister Deer Circle and we'll get back into a more regular pattern.

You can now follow me and the school on Facebook.  You don't have to join to see the page.  If you want to post comments, however, you'll have to get an account.  It's free and can get pretty fun and addictive!

I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful energy of spring.  Take some time to sit on the Earth and feel the energy of renewal.  I feel that spring reminds us that even though things end, life continues on and always finds a way to be reborn.

 Many Blessings!

Full Moon Ceremony in Afton
aftonmoon.JPG

We had a great Full Moon Ceremony this last Friday.  I recently moved out to Afton and in with my partner, Larry, and we were thrilled to have everyone out to our place for the first time.  It was a perfect September night, cool and clear, perfect for moon viewing.  We had fun sitting around the fire, singing and drumming and connecting to Grandmother Moon.

Sister Deer Circle Volunteering for Farm Voices

Thanks to Deanna for a great idea!

It's been awhile since my last "blog," which is partly due to the fact that I have moved!  Big on several levels, one is moving in with my honey, Larry, and the other is that I have moved out of the city and into the country near Crozet.  So much quiet, my ears don't know what to make of it!  And all the cats (now six in all) are doing surprisingly well.  No blood drawn, so that's good.

This month was actually our second gathering for the new volunteer group called Sister Deer Circle.  There's been some confusion that this is an all women's group, but that is not the case.  It is just that we call the deer "representative" Sister Deer, and she is the one we honor and work to embody in this act of giving.  So, men are welcome, too!

Our first meeting was last month at the Woman's Initiative.  We had four of us and we had a very nice time helping the organization out with basic necessities like folding newsletters and organizing recycling.  It ended up being a relaxing evening where we all got to connect and feel like we contributed.

This month on Aug. 2nd, we volunteered at a big event called Farm Voices Seminar.  This is a group for local Virginia farmers.  There were lectures by local congressman, and all kinds of booths by local growers, stores and restaurants.  And have I mentioned the food?  Oh my God, so much amazing food, we all were so full.  There was food from many local restaurants  (my favorite was summer squash soup from La Fleurie - yum!) and then many individuals brought food for a huge potluck.

We were in charge of beverages (donated from Whole Foods), which we diligently organized, poured, and quenched the thirst of thousands.  Well, at least hundreds. We had fun as a group and got to interact with lots of great people.

The next Sister Deer event will most likely be helping out at the Vegetarian Festival.  I will get more to you on that as I learn more information.   It takes place on Saturday, September 26th in Lee's Park (next to the main library) and helps many animal rescue organizations and raises awareness about animal treatment.  It's a fun event that I have been to several times.

Please check out my new schedule for the fall - lots of exciting things coming up!  Hope you are all doing well - Blessings, Sue
